Terms of Service

Last Updated 11 December 2025

At Places, we believe that strong communities are built on trust - and that begins with how we handle the information of those who call them home.

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) form a legal agreement between you (“the user”) and Places Platforms Pty Ltd (“Places”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) governing your use of the Places app and places.cc website (together, “the Service”).

By using Places, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Relationships & Scope

  • This agreement is between Places and each individual user.
  • Separately, the deployment of Places to a property, building, or community is governed by a separate agreement between Places Platforms Pty Ltd and the relevant managing entity, such as the Strata Body, or Strata Manager.
  • These Terms apply to all individuals who use the platform, whether as residents, owners, committee members, managers, or other authorised participants.

2. Access & Invitations

During the current testing phase, access to Places is by invitation only.

Invited users may invite other users who are directly associated with the same property or community (e.g. resident, owner, committee member, manager).

Inviting individuals who are not legitimately associated with that property or community is not permitted.

Places may refuse, suspend, or withdraw access at any time to protect the safety and integrity of the testing environment.

3. Service Availability

Places is currently provided as an alpha/beta testing service.

We may modify, update, or remove features at any time without notice.

We make no guarantees of uninterrupted or error-free operation and may suspend access temporarily for maintenance or improvement.

4. Cost & Future Features

During testing, the Service is provided at no cost to participating communities and users.

Future paid features may be introduced and will be governed by separate terms or an updated version of this agreement before any charges are applied.

5. Accounts & Security

To access certain features, you must create an account using a valid email address and authentication method (e.g. passkey).

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and all activity under your account.

If you suspect unauthorised use, notify us immediately at support@places.cc.

6. User Content

You retain ownership of any posts, photos, videos, or comments you create or upload.

By sharing content, you grant Places a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, display, and share it within your building’s or community’s Places environment as needed for operation.

You are responsible for ensuring your content does not infringe others’ rights or violate law.

We may remove content that breaches these Terms or is otherwise inappropriate.

7. Code of Conduct

Places is built for communities of trust and respect. To maintain that standard, users must:

  • Treat others respectfully and avoid behaviour that could be considered bullying, harassment, discrimination, or intimidation.
  • Refrain from posting unlawful, defamatory, or misleading material.
  • Avoid sharing personal or sensitive information of others without their consent.
  • Not post or share any sexually explicit, sexually suggestive, or otherwise inappropriate content, including pornography, sexualised images, nudity intended to be sexual, or sexually harassing messages or advances.
  • Not post hateful, violent, or otherwise offensive content, including hate speech, threats, or material intended to incite hostility.
  • Not spam, advertise, or promote unrelated goods or services.
  • Not impersonate others or misrepresent their role or affiliation.
  • Not interfere with or attempt to disrupt the security or operation of the platform.
  • Follow any reasonable community guidelines set by Places or your building’s governing body.

We may remove or hide content that breaches this Code or applicable law, and may suspend or terminate accounts where necessary to protect users or the wider community. Serious breaches may be reported to the relevant building authority or, where required, law-enforcement agencies.

8. Data & Privacy

Our handling of personal information is described in our Privacy Policy.

By using Places, you acknowledge and agree to the data-handling practices described there.

9. Support & Account Deletion

Support is available via email at support@places.cc.

Users can delete their accounts directly within the app. When an account is deleted, personal information associated with that account will be removed or de-identified in line with our data retention practices. Some contributions to shared community spaces (such as posts, comments, or support tickets) may remain visible as part of the community’s ongoing record.

Users may also contact us if they need assistance with account deletion or have questions about their data.

10. Termination & Suspension

We may suspend or terminate your access at any time, without notice, if you breach these Terms, if your community ends participation in testing, or if needed to protect the Service or its users.

Upon termination, your right to access Places ends immediately. Data may be retained per our Privacy Policy.

11. Intellectual Property

All intellectual-property rights in Places - including software, design, logos, and content - are owned by or licensed to Places Platforms Pty Ltd.

You may not copy or distribute any part of the platform except as expressly permitted by these Terms or written consent from us.

12. Limitation of Liability

Places is provided “as is” during testing. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we exclude all warranties and are not liable for any loss, damage, or inconvenience arising from your use (or inability to use) the Service.

Nothing in these Terms limits rights you may have under Australian consumer law.

13. App Store & Google Play Terms

If you download the app via the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, you acknowledge that:

  • These Terms are between you and Places Platforms Pty Ltd, not Apple or Google.
  • Apple/Google are not responsible for the app’s content, maintenance, or support.
  • In case of any warranty issue, you may contact Apple or Google for a refund (if applicable), but they have no further obligation.
  • You must comply with the App Store or Play Store usage rules.

14. Updates to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be notified in-app or on the website before taking effect. Continued use after updates constitutes acceptance.

15. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of Australia. Disputes should first be resolved through good-faith discussion or mediation before formal proceedings.
