At Places, we believe that strong communities are built on trust - and that begins with how we handle the information of those who call them home.

This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and how you can contact us about your data. It applies to both the Places mobile app (iOS & Android) and the Places website at places.cc.

By using Places, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

We collect information that helps us operate the platform, improve performance, and support our users.

• Posts, messages, comments, photos, videos, and reactions you share through the platform

• Device ID
• Operating system and version
• Crash reports, performance logs, and diagnostic data
• Usage data and analytics (e.g. navigation, clicks, engagement patterns)

• Payment and billing data (to support upcoming paid features)

We use this information to:

• Create and manage your Places account
• Enable communication and collaboration within communities
• Operate, maintain, and improve our platform
• Diagnose and fix technical issues
• Monitor usage and performance
• Communicate updates, support messages, and important notices
• Prepare for future billing and payment functionality

We do not sell personal information to anyone.

Where possible, we use aggregated or anonymised data to analyse usage trends and improve features.

For users located outside Australia (including in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom), our legal bases for processing personal data may include:

We only share the minimum information necessary for these providers to perform their services and ensure they maintain appropriate privacy and security standards.

Your data may be stored in Australia or overseas, depending on where our subprocessors operate.

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information against loss, misuse, and unauthorised access - including encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and continuous monitoring.

We keep your information for as long as necessary to operate Places, meet legal obligations, and resolve disputes.

When information is no longer needed, it is securely deleted or anonymised.

We may retain limited metadata (such as usage logs) for operational and audit purposes.

During the current testing phase, only invited users (from participating communities) can access Places.

Users cannot yet delete their own accounts directly but may request deletion or anonymisation at any time by emailing support@places.cc.

Once Places launches publicly, account self-deletion and privacy settings will be available in-app.

The Places website uses cookies and similar technologies to understand how visitors use the site and to improve functionality.

In the app, analytics and crash data (via Posthog and Sentry) help us monitor performance and stability.

You can adjust your browser settings to manage or block cookies.

Depending on where you live, you may have certain rights regarding your personal data. These may include the right to:

• Request correction or deletion of your data
• Object to or restrict how your data is processed

If you are located outside Australia, your information may be transferred to and processed in other countries where our subprocessors operate.

We take steps to ensure such transfers comply with applicable data protection laws, including safeguards consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) and GDPR-equivalent protections.

If a data breach occurs that may impact your personal information, we will notify affected users and relevant authorities as required by law.

We will take immediate steps to contain and investigate the breach and prevent future occurrences.

Places Platforms Pty Ltd complies with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

We are committed to ensuring personal information is handled responsibly and transparently.

Places is designed for adult residents and community members and is not intended for children under 16.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn we have inadvertently collected data from a child, we will delete it promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we’ll notify you in-app or by email. The “Effective Date” above will always reflect the latest version.
